If your not familiar with the or ‘Roberts Ridge’ during Operation Anaconda in Afghanistan during 2002 you could do worse then picking up a copy of Macpherson’s account or , one of Osprey’s Raid series. In short, it’s a story about a mission gone horribly wrong where a SOF is choppered in to set up an OP only to find the summit occupied by dug-in Chechens and Afghan Taliban. In the ensuing 17-hour fire-fight 7 US service-men and an unknown number of their opponents were killed including the eponymous Petty Officer First Class Neil Roberts (SEAL).
Prayers were not enough to keep a helicopter from being shot out of the sky by al Qaeda fighters. The wreckage left behind on a his mountain top in a remote corner of Afghanistan — now known to the U.S. army as “Roberts Ridge” — is a reminder of the young soldiers who died, keeping their promise to “never leave a fallen comrade.”
The Roberts Ridge is a layout using Bachmann EZ Track in place of traditional On30 or HO Flextrack and Switches. It was built for my nephew Bobby's 8th Birthday. All the parts are commercially available.
